Recipe 09 · Everyday return visits · Always-on

A monthly-reset visit leaderboard plus a store-wide progress bar

A monthly rhythm for gyms and group-class studios: visit missions build the ranking, and the number of linked accounts builds a shared goal, so individual effort and community participation each have a place.

A café welcomes back a returning customer; collecting points gives the next visit something to look forward to

Campaign length

Always-on / monthly rounds

First-time setup

50 min setup

Ongoing cost after launch

About 15 min on the 1st of each month to announce the rankings by hand, about 10 min of photo spot checks daily

Times are estimates for running the recipe itself; brand content, reward prep, customer service and results reviews need separate staff time. The scope of training and hands-on support is confirmed based on your plan.

We practice it with you

Together we set up the visit mission and tiered rank rewards, and keep the two goals — visit ranking and linked-account count — clearly separate.

What we review together afterward

Compare mission records with in-store spot checks, watch whether mid- and lower-ranked members keep taking part, then adjust the reward bands.

1 / 4 · The 1st of the month

He opens LIFF and last month's leaderboard results are on the home page: he came 47th and got 50 points — he'd forgotten how many times he even came last month. The new month starts from zero.

Rank rewards reach down to #31–200 — it's not a prize, it's “you're on the list.”

How to get all kinds of members to take part

The most competitive recipe here, so it has three layers of safety net. Extending rank rewards down to #31–200 is the core — out of 500 members, 470 will never make the top 30. If they can see the leaderboard but never get anything, it becomes a monthly public humiliation that speeds up churn instead of stopping it. Giving #31–200 50 points isn't about the prize; it says “you're on the list.” On top of that, everything resets monthly: even the #1 starts each month at 0 visits.

What to set up in the admin console (27 fields total)

  1. 1. Turn each visit into a daily, auto-approved mission

    Points / cycle / cap per cycle / auto-approve — 1 mission × 4 fields

  2. 2. Split monthly rank rewards into four bands — the last band matters most

Per band: from rank / to rank / reward — 4 bands × 3 fields

  3. 3. Set up a store-wide shared goal (the only truly all-member goal on the platform)

    Threshold / time window / unlock reward — 1 goal × 3 fields

  4. 4. Give less competitive members a second path: level-gated exclusive items

Per item: level requirement and points — 4 items × 2 fields

Staff time: About 50 min setup. About 15 min on the 1st of each month to announce the rankings by hand, about 10 min of photo spot checks daily

Limits to know before you launch Pitfall × 3
  • The monthly leaderboard's automatic settlement schedule has never been acceptance-tested. Don't tell clients it's “running automatically every month”; after the first month's settlement, someone has to check its status by hand.
  • The monthly leaderboard is hard-wired to calendar months, so it can't do a “two-month summer combined contest” or a “two-week grand-opening sprint board.” Gyms love asking for both — don't say yes on the spot.
  • The store-wide shared goal counts only one metric, “number of linked accounts,” and what it unlocks can only be one spin — it can't be changed to “1000 store visits in total unlocks a discount for everyone.”

What can't be automated

  • Announcing the rankings on the 1st of each month is manual; the system doesn't send a push message automatically
  • The first month's settlement must be checked by hand
